Definitions used when describing USB WidgetsTM
USB Widget – A small software application that opens when a USB Drive is inserted into a PC. (or can be created so it does not auto run) The ‘Widget” is a small, elegant application that does 1 or 2 things (getting information like weather or traffic or news headlines) very well usually without any user interaction. The end user does not need to search for content or information. A web browser is NOT needed or used. The information or ‘content’ is PUSHED to a content area on the widget. The USB Widget is DYNAMIC and DELIVERS the information automatically via the Internet. An optional MAC version will not autorun and must be launched by the end user. There is an additional cost for creating MAC widgets.
The USB Widget can be custom designed, any shape or size with 1-5 feeds and unlimited links. They Feeds are Dynamic (updated) and the links open new browser windows.
LINK- A "Hyper-Link" that opens a browser window to a web page. Common on all web sites, a link is an underlined text or image that takes the user to another page, or opens a new window (pop-up) or page to display the information that the link is referencing.
FEED – Or AKA as “channel” that is pushed to a Widget or FEED READER. A specific feed will have information about 1 topic. For Example a MEDICAL NEWS FEED will provide NEWS HEADLINES to the Widget or FEED READER. The FEED content is displayed WITHIN the widget and not a common browser window. The “Links” in the FEED will open up other browser windows. For example a FEED of NEWS HEADLINES will open browser windows to display the full story of the particular NEWS HEADLINE.
RSS- Really Simple Syndication – The method that most FEEDS are delivered to Widgets and Feed Readers is via RSS code.
Dynamic Content – Content or information that comes from an internet connection that UPDATES. A dynamic (live) FEED is content that is always updated. The most common FEED is and RSS FEED. For example STATIC content maybe a file on a computer that does not change. Files preloaded on flash drives are known as static files. Once they are preloaded, they are static, they do not update.
DynamicSync™ - A Dynamic (updatable ) procedure to update the static files that are on USB Drives.
The DynamicSync will PUSH updated files from a central computer server to individual USB Drives. This will take a “static – preloaded file” and Dynamically update the file so the content is new.
